What people call about

Septic Problems We
Get Called For

A septic system usually shows that something is wrong before it quits. These are the problems homeowners around Kuna, Eagle and Boise bring to us:

  • Slow drains or backups inside the house, especially in more than one fixture at once.
  • An alarm sounding or a panel light that stays on.
  • A pump that stopped, or one that will not shut off. Stuck or tangled floats are one of the first things we check.
  • Wet, soft or unusually green ground over the drain field or near the tank.
  • A sewage smell in the yard or near the tank.
  • A cracked or sunken tank lid, or a tank that has been damaged.

If any of these sound familiar, call 208-856-1646. Not sure what you are looking at? Call anyway and describe it.

We are a licensed complex septic installer (Idaho license 2-37919), registered contractor RCE-70817 and insured, and every repair carries a 1-year warranty.

What We Repair
And Replace

Pump, float
and alarm problems

When an alarm goes off or a pump stops, we trace it: the floats, the pump and what the alarm is telling you. Customers have called us to troubleshoot pump floats and alarms, and they describe us as clear about what we were doing.

Tank and
lid repairs

A damaged tank or lid needs attention. We have repaired septic tanks for homeowners, and we tell you plainly whether the tank can be repaired or the damage points to replacing it.

Drain field repair
and replacement

Wet ground and slow drains often point to the drain field. We repair what can be repaired, and when the field has failed we replace it. A drain field replacement is one of the jobs customers describe in their reviews.

What happens on a repair visit

How A Septic
Repair Goes

  1. You call. Tell us what you have noticed and where the system is on the property.
  2. We look. We check the pump, floats and alarm, the tank and lids, and the drain field.
  3. We diagnose and explain. You hear what we found and what it means, in plain words.
  4. We fix it, or tell you it needs replacing. If a repair will do, we do the repair. If the system is past repairing, we say so and talk through replacement.
  5. Some repairs need a Central District Health permit. Customers describe us taking care of that step. In Ada County, septic permits go through Central District Health, and its fee schedule includes a repair permit. Customers describe us handling the inspection too.

One customer says the crew left everything spotless after a septic tank repair, and others call the owners fair. That is how we want your visit to go.

Repair or replace

Tank Repair, Drain Field
Repair Or A New System

The honest answer depends on what we find. Here is how the three usually separate.

Tank repair

Damage that stays in the tank or its lid can often be fixed without touching the rest of the system. We look at the tank and tell you which case you have.

Drain field repair

The drain field is the buried part of the system, so trouble there shows up as wet ground or slow drains. Some drain field problems can be repaired. A field that has failed cannot, and that is a replacement.

Replacement

When the tank, the field or both are past repair, replacement is the honest answer. It is built like a new system, with a permit. See septic system installation, or the overview of all our septic services.

Questions

Septic Repair
Questions

Can a drain field be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?

It depends on what is wrong. Some drain field problems can be repaired, and a field that has failed has to be replaced. We look at the system, tell you which it is and why, and then it is your decision. If it comes to replacement, it is installed much like a new system: see septic installation.

Do you handle the permit?

Customers describe us handling the permit and inspection. In Ada County, septic permits go through Central District Health, and its fee schedule includes a repair permit. Once we have seen the problem, we tell you whether the fix needs one.

Do you also do sewer lines?

Yes. Dirt Bros installs, repairs and replaces sewer lines, both new connections and existing ones. If the problem is in the line and not in the septic system, see sewer line repair.

My septic drain field stopped working so it was a fairly urgent issue. Dirt Bros gave me an initial estimate to get started and get the inspector out to the house. After the inspection, Dirt Bros gave me an estimate to replace the drain field at another location on the property and got right to work. They were easy to work with and even stayed late a couple nights to get the job done as quickly as possible which my family appreciated. They got the job done a day earlier than estimated. I would recommend them.
